Acupuncture

Acupuncture improves the body’s functions and promotes the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomic sites – commonly referred to as acupuncture points. In 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupuncture’s safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture is now covered by most insurance policies and is used at Behavioral Services Center primarily to help people relieve pain.

Acupuncture is utilized by Behavioral Services Center to promote recovery from Substance Use Disorders and psychiatric symptoms.

For Substance Use Disorders acupuncture:

  • Reduces Withdrawal Symptoms
  • Decreases Cravings
  • Promotes a state of calm

This state of calm allows the consumer to be less defensive and gain more from counseling sessions and self-help groups.

For psychiatric symptoms acupuncture:

  • Reduces anxiety
  • Is effective in treating depression
  • Supports medication in reduction of psychiatric symptoms

  • Has no negative side effects
